INTERNATIONAL INTEGRATION DEPARTMENT
INTERNATIONAL INTEGRATION DEPARTMENT
Within our International Integration Department, students have access to an inquiry-based American and Chinese curriculum taught within an IB framework.
We focus on critical thinking, collaboration, and research skills as well as our introduction to world cultures and global issues to prepare students for present and future success.
Our students are expected to value and respect diversity and cultivate an open mind to learn from other cultures. Students have many opportunities to cultivate their thinking, athletic, artistic, and leadership skills.
We believe individual responsibility is important. Our students learn organization, teamwork, and interpersonal skills so that they take responsibility for themselves, their belongings, and their actions.
CURRICULUM
Team Teaching
Xinhua Academy International Integration Department provides two head teachers in each class in which native-English speaking teachers co-teach with bilingual Chinese teachers to immerse students in a fully dual language environment. What makes our approach different from other schools is the collaborative planning and language teaching by our teachers to make sure that subject content is understood while students simultaneously acquire English and Chinese language skills.
Advisory Program
At Xinhua Academy, all students feel valued and know they belong to a vibrant, caring community. Our advisory program provides the opportunity for students to cultivate strong relationships with their adult advisors and with a small group of classmates. A key component of the advisory program is character building, as students engage in conversations and team-building activities that help them grow academically, socially and morally. Advisors serve as mentors, role models, and listeners.
Varied Curriculum
Xinhua Academy prepares students for success through its student-centered philosophy, culture of caring, and academic support. We balance the rigors of academic education with extracurricular activities. Every student takes art, music, drama, and physical education (PE) as part of the regular school program. Among them, the ABRSM course and swimming course are compulsory courses for all students. These courses allow children to be themselves and develop new interests, while they learn artistic, performance, and athletic skills. Field trips and social activities are created by the Guidance Center for further study.

CURRICULUM SYSTEM
Small class sizes of no more than 20 allows students to explore a wide range of academic disciplines in depth. Our inquiry class curriculum fully supports our school mission: While respecting and honoring Chinese culture, broaden international horizons and develop outstanding citizens for our future world. Teachers draw from established bodies of knowledge and compelling questions to help students build new knowledge and skills. Student’s own curiosity, together with careful curriculum design based on global context, major skills, and key concepts, provides a stimulus for learning that is engaging and relevant. Students develop the ability to ask questions, evaluate evidence, construct arguments, and take informed action.
Extra-curricular Program
The diverse quality development curriculum is based on each student's individual comprehensive and lifelong improvement. It reflects the blending of Chinese national culture and international diverse cultures. Under the liberal education concept, we ensure our student's involvement with Chinese and foreign cultures and the essence of science and humanities to the utmost capability in order to cultivate their broad international vision and multi-dimensional way of integrating different cultures.

IB PYP SCHOOL
Xinhua Academy Intergration department is an authorized school for the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme.
IB World Schools share a common philosophy—a commitment to improve the teaching and learning of a diverse and inclusive community of students by delivering challenging, high quality programmes of international education that share a powerful vision.*
The PYP prepares students to become active, caring, life-long learners who demonstrate respect for themselves and others and have the capacity to participate in the world around them. It focuses on the development of the whole child as an inquirer, both within and beyond the classroom. In primary school, we offer a co-teaching system and set different language-level courses.
MIDDLE SCHOOL
Xinhua academy has begun following the middle years programm (MYP) framework developed by the international baccalaureate (IB). We use MYP concepts and subject groups as the academic core in middle school inquiry classes. In inquiry based learning environment setting, the academic content is determined foreign and local standards, plus students' level of development. The MYP emphasizes transdisciplinary skills, and all academic courses are co-taught by native language teachers and bilingual Chinese teachers.
HIGH SCHOOL
Xinhua Academy high school students have access to an American education with high quality foreign and Chinese teachers, American and Chinese curriculum, and modern print and online resources. They develop the cultural understanding, English language, and study skills necessary to be successful at an American university. Graduates of Xinhua Academy earn an American high school diploma.
The High School daily schedule includes morning meeting, seven 45-minute daily periods, extracurricular program (ECP), evening tutorial classes, and supervised study hall. All academic courses (such as science, mathematics, etc.) are co-taught by native language teachers and bilingual Chinese teachers to make up for the academic gap caused by language barriees.
